This refers to the editorial "The Nehruvian Vision" (November 14). It is unfortunate that Jawaharlal Nehru's legacy is considered to be under threat at a time when his 125th birth anniversary is being celebrated across the nation. This wrong thinking is because some people believe the continuation of his legacy means continuing policies that he pursued during a particular period and perpetuating the political party that he led, which is now headed by his progeny.

People on both sides of the current political divide should realise that a "chai wala" heads the nation today because of the system Nehru created. It should be recollected that Rabindranath Tagore called Nehru a person "greater than his deeds and truer than his surroundings", while Mahatma Gandhi referred to him as "Hind ke Jawahar" (India's Jawahar). There is no reason that the views of these two greatest Indians do not hold good any more.
