It is heartening to see reports of the income tax (I-T) department simplifying the procedure for filing I-T returns electronically (“E-filing taxpayers won’t have to acquire a digital signature,” April 10). But many of the assessees who e-filed I-T returns have been heard complaining that tax refunds due have not been paid. Instead the assessees are informed that the refund is adjusted and no details of this are furnished. This may be owing to some programming error that requires to be corrected immediately or else the central processing system may fail.
