The government’s decision to stop foreigners from manufacturing cigarettes in India is welcome. The government has already made mandatory the display of pictorial warnings on the packs of tobacco products. In fact, such pictorial warnings are a step in the right direction — they will serve as a grim reminder of the ill-effects of smoking.
The government should also look at other possible ways of creating awareness on the hazardous effects of tobacco consumption.
