This refers to the report "India, US envision a new business climate" (January 27), Prime Minister Narendra Modi's invitation to US President Barack Obama to be the chief guest at India's 66th Republic Day celebrations and its prompt acceptance by the White House said it all about the personal rapport Modi has developed with Obama. The US president's visit has proved to be more fruitful than expected with the end of a seven-year deadlock over the civil nuclear agreement and defence technology transfer initiative. Moreover, Obama's comments making the US' stand clear on terror, on India's role in Afghanistan and in the Asia-Pacific region are significant for us.
On the economic front, Obama announced new initiatives worth around $4 billion to boost trade and investment as well as jobs in India, opened up new sources of financing for social development ventures through a new Indian diaspora investment initiative and much more. His comments at the US-India Business Summit marked his vision for India. It seems that Modi's diplomacy has instilled new warmth in Indo-US relations.
