Standing committees like the public accounts committee (PAC) are a testament to the highest parliamentary practices put in place by our founding fathers to ensure the continuation of parliamentary democracy. The unseemly slug-fest that has unfolded could have been avoided had the members of the committee followed the time-tested rule that one cannot be the judge in one’s own case. The DMK members of PAC, thus, should have eschewed participating in the probe on the 2G spectrum scam.
