I agree with your editorial “Hazare hazard” (April 6). We have democratically-elected governments both at the Centre and state level. The leaders of the government are accountable to the people who elect them. People enjoy full freedom to change the erring elected governments in the next elections.

Giving governmental power to people who cannot be held accountable is not permissible. In a democratic set-up, the implementation of any law (however stringent it may be against wrong-doers) will be slow, since the due process of law will have to be followed. The mere creation of one more body with assorted members in the name of Lok Pal cannot eradicate corruption.
