Apropos "Canvassing the base" (Chinese Whispers, March 10), it is surprising that Nandan Nilekeni seems to be leveraging Aadhaar-related data to prepare for the next general elections. Sending personalised letters to the head of every household in his constituency using the Aadhaar database is contrary to the assurance of privacy and confidentiality of information. India lacks adequate privacy protections laws. Under Aadhaar, we are required to part with biometric information in the form of iris scans and fingerprints, and there is no system to ensure that such data will not be misused. Therefore, we can only hope that our personal information will not be misused.
