<b>Letters:</b> Population bane

Barun Roy’s column “The deluge and after” (Asia file, November 17) comes as an apt reminder at time when Indian politicians are shamelessly propagating the false notion of India’s demographic advantage.

Rarely does one see or hear of any government policy or advertising to control population growth. In stark contrast, China is steadfastly continuing with its “one-child policy”.

The debate on population control should be re-started in policy circles. Nandan Nilkeni should also be drawn into this debate to explain his statements on the issue since his views on it are repeatedly used to suit convenience.
