A third of all new power plants coming up in India (‘Indonesian shock for Indian power plants’, Oct 21) will suffer a serious setback with the Indonesian government proposing to put a cap on coal exports. The move will be challenged in courts since Indian firms have acquired coal mines in Indonesia with the sole purpose of supplying coal to their power plants in India. But this is something India needs to learn a lesson from.
Why should India be exporting raw materials like iron ore when it can export finished steel, for instance?
