With reference to "Unsponsored ADRs, GDRs likely to get tax relief" (February 1), it is yet another positive announcement by the Centre in the run-up to Budget 2016. The finance minister (FM) has said something new almost every day for the last one week. Enhanced capex, MAT exemption for SEZs, TDS relief, "Budget for the cause of economics and not populism", and tax relief for unsponsored ADRs/GDRs are all positive indicators. Each would bolster the industry and also help the common man. Perhaps Arun Jaitley has come out with more sneak previews than any other FM in the past.

These may sound like the usual high-decibel rhetoric - normally associated with election propaganda and not worth any serious attention - but here is an FM, who sounds credible and pragmatic in the present circumstances. No FM has enjoyed the kind of support and understanding from the prime minister that Jaitley does. This time, it appears the government intends to do everything that is needed to perk up industry.

"RBI, FinMin on the same page on fiscal prudence" (February 1) reveals yet another advantage that the FM enjoys, which assures us that all the talk is not just pie in the sky but perhaps based on sound homework. We should all wish the FM success.
