This refers to the report "Fares, freight rates unchanged, railway finances stutter along" (February 13). Considering that the Lok Sabha Elections are just a few months away, policy announcements through the interim Railway Budget and the Union Budget should not be made and status quo should be maintained. The interim Railway Budget announced new trains, which I feel, was not necessary at this point of time. The sole reason is that nobody can predict what the result of the Lok Sabha polls will be - will it be bahumat (a majority) or will there be re-elections considering the None Of The Above provision? Maintaining status quo will also help avoid any alteration or rollback when a new government comes to power.
