The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in the Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana. It has been less than a month since Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan", urging the masses to neither litter nor let others litter. But it seems like the BJP is in no mood to follow its own principle. On the day of the poll results, BJP workers celebrated the party's victory by bursting crackers, thereby polluting the environment and littering the leftovers on the roads.
Diwali is just a few days ahead, and the BJP should have set an example by celebrating this joyous moment in a much greener and cleaner way - by abandoning the old method of bursting crackers to celebrate their victory. "Preach what you teach" is exactly what the Modi-led government should ponder.
