This refers to Surinder Sud's column "The nitty-gritty of nanotech" (Farm View, July 22). The MARG Group, in collaboration with Virginia Tech, has recently established the Institute of Critical Technology and Applied Science at Swarnabhoomi, near Chennai, for developing nano-scale technologies. This is a promising start in Tamil Nadu. However, learning from the experience of the long-standing infancy of biotechnology for genetically-modified crops, after the successful adoption of Bt cotton, I will not be surprised if anti-modern technology groups will stall India's efforts on the nanotechnology front, too, leaving it lagging other countries.
