The punishment can't be based solely on the complaints lodged against them by an airline

Anjali Bhargava has discussed a significant issue in her article, “Grounded for bad behaviour” (March 21) — one that concerns unsuitable conduct by some passengers on board domestic as well as international flights. There should be zero tolerance towards such troublemakers.

However, I differ with the writer when she endorses the civil aviation ministry’s idea of introducing a no-fly list. She also suggests that “a public blacklist that bars you from flying for a certain period — based on the severity of your offence —could in fact deter others from behaving badly”.

Isn’t this an unrealistic punishment? How would the severity of their offence be proved unless a probe is carried out either by the police or security agencies? The punishment can’t be based solely on the complaints lodged against them by an airline.

Rowdy behaviour must be checked and taken note of by the civil aviation ministry. But action against such people should hold up to legal scrutiny.
