This refers to ‘In Memoriam’, September 30, written as an obituary for contemporary artists of our time. Kishore Singh seems to imply that the artist’s creativity is completely dependent on market forces. If the contemporary market has slowed down, do the artists have to start rendering their creativity on the basis of the prices being commanded at the auctions? Most certainly not. These are not product manufacturers who produce what is popular or cost-effective for that period of time. We are talking about a lot of people who are dependent solely on their own creative resources to continue to make art in whichever form it may take.
As a gallery that deals in this segment of the market, we have always been committed to what we were doing before or during the boom. I speak for several galleries who would stand by this statement.
