Apropos the editorial, "Uniting in opposition" (November 9), the results of the Assembly elections in Bihar have brought regional political parties back into the limelight while pushing national parties to the sidelines. Although it is always difficult to predict who the electorate will vote for, two successive losses - in the Delhi and Bihar Assembly polls - for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance since it spectacularly won the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 call for serious introspection. The BJP needs to take steps to avoid loss of credibility, critical for providing efficient governance and maintaining political stability. At the Centre, the BJP is sure to face tough times now as it tries to pass important Bills in the Rajya Sabha.

With the Janata Parivar emerging victorious in the Bihar polls, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has the opportunity to maintain his good image on governance while Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad has another chance to redeem his image by supporting Kumar and working with him.
