With reference to "Home again: Indians are reversing their march" (April 15), Indians increasingly are getting quality exposure in education by mingling with people from various countries and cultures abroad, but there remains an inclination among many to return home. This is basically because of four factors.

First, India has gained international recognition by adopting an open market policy to compete effectively in the global market. Indian products have improved qualitatively. Thus, there is a greater scope for good private entrepreneurship with fewer bureaucratic hurdles in economic and free trade movement.

Secondly, acquiring foreign citizenship is easier said than done as Indians will risk alienating themselves from their own nation besides becoming unwelcome foreign citizens. Thirdly, monetary benefits are of no use in an environment where work takes away most of the time. There is no scope for pursuing personal interests and hobbies despite having a healthy bank balance, as work takes away quality spare time.

Finally, the global economic slowdown has not fully receded with the recovery process still uneven. The price levels of various products are substantially higher and a healthy income may be countered by a higher expenditure, especially as internal currency value is poor within local markets abroad. The possibility of lay-offs increases the feeling of financial insecurity. Thus, given these factors Indians are "reversing their march" as ultimately there is no place like home.
