This refers to the report "Indian IT's Big Four build $9-billion cash chest" (October 27). Looking at this cash reserve, I feel that after getting exempted from tax for more than 15 years, it is now time for the government to tax Indian information technology (IT) companies at the standard corporate tax rate. The IT industry has now matured and there is no further need to extend these tax sops to the companies. The recent rupee fall has also benefitted them immensely. The government, while reducing subsidies, should also review the tax sops given to the IT companies.
