This refers to Subir Roy's column "The road ahead for India's cars" (Value For Money, February 12). The Auto Expo 2014 has ended. It is strange that despite being a part of an information technology superpower, Indian auto manufacturers are not focussing on producing smart cars, which can be of great help in reducing accidents or can send messages to the police and families in case of any mishap. Even trucks and auto-rickshaws should have artificial intelligence. Solar cars is also a neglected area. Safety regulations should not be overlooked in cars regardless of their price. Today, low-priced cars and even the ones in higher price range do not have life-saving features such as airbags. This is one of the reasons why India ranks high in road fatalities. Luxury should not be the sole criteria in making and marketing cars.
