‘Tighter visas for Chinese workers’, October 19, highlights the urgent need to develop skilled manpower that would obviate the need to hire workers from other countries. According to some sources, over 30,000 Chinese working are engaged in 14 power projects.
Take Reliance Industries Ltd. It currently employs over 1,000 Chinese in its 1,440-km east-west gas pipeline (from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh to Bharuch in Gujarat) project. The present scenario calls for more vocational training institutes to meet the growing demand for skilled man-power.
