The report “Govt uses apex court gun to fire at CAG” (September 29) aptly portrayed the sense of relief of P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal and Salman Khurshid. However, I cannot help but wonder whether this celebration is premature.
If the lack of defined criteria and defined weight for each criterion at the time of allocation as reported in the press and electronic media is correct, it is hard to see how any of the captive coal block allocations since 1993 will pass the tests of impartiality and not benefiting anyone at the cost of others specified in the Supreme Court reply to the presidential reference.
Will not every single one of these allocations inevitably be struck down by the Supreme Court – which is already seized of the matter – in the course of time?
