Why does the media have double standards when it comes to the telecom sector (‘Was Trai bypassed while giving new telecom licences’, November 19)? When Communication Minister A Raja’s predecessor gave out mobile phone licences at 2001 prices, why did no one protest? As A S Bansal, former CMD, Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd, has pointed out in his piece, this was because the very firms who are protesting against newcomers today are the ones that got those licences cheap. These are also the firms who got extra spectrum at no additional cost. The minister has done well to call their bluff.
