This refers to the edit “IT and PDS” (September 28). In the wake of cut-throat competition and economic challenges at the global level, the country’s IT sector should be encouraged in all possible ways. To begin with, the aid and concession given to the IT sector should continue. Our country has miles to go before it achieves landmarks in the IT industry. For this purpose, strong and well-planned strategies are needed. Also, the government should extend its complete support to all the IT hubs/companies in the country till they emerge stronger.

Simultaneously, the benefits of the IT industry should reach everyone. In this context, India needs a three-pronged strategy that will involve e-education, e-business and e-governance. The fruits of the IT revolution should reach students across the country and facilities such as the Internet and e-mail should be made accessible to them.

Besides, IT should be utilised in the agriculture sector and industry. Sales and purchases can be made easy through complete online business transactions. Finally, e-governance is the need of the hour. With complete e-governance, the administration can easily make people aware of its schemes and benefits.
