In a system that can justifiably be described as “by the corrupt, for the corrupt”, it matters little who stands up and challenges it. The elite don’t raise their voice against corruption because they are least affected. But if certain elite have taken up the cause, they deserve compliments and not ridicule. Team Anna’s fight against corruption is not merely “for the elite” but for the vast majority of non-elite. It is also uncharitable and in bad taste to refer to the Gandhian social reformer, Anna Hazare, as “a former army truck driver”. Hazare has a long history of fighting against corruption in Maharashtra. And his aide Arvind Kejriwal’s campaign for the Right to Information should not be forgotten.
