This refers to the report "No one should sell below cost: Biyani" (October 10). In today's business, every company gets funded. Even Kishore Biyani got funding. There is no such law that says no one should sell below cost and, in fact, no one does. It is unfortunate that Biyani, with so much experience in retail, is advocating the government to meddle with market players. One hopes that Nirmala Sitharaman, the commerce minister, soon realises her folly in interfering with such market forces. Today's consumers are intelligent and can punish people who think they can be arm-twisted. Let the government look back and see what they can do to restore taxpayers money they have lost in areas such as spectrum and coal mine allocation and land deals conducted by various state governments across the country.
The government should not get carried away by a few retail cartels who are say they are saviours of consumers in the country.
