This refers to the editorial "The new commission" (January 5). It is true that the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog is going to be a historic institution for the country that will epitomise policy reformation. But achieving this feat still requires further clarification regarding its structure and responsibilities. Besides this, one thing that top government officials need to focus on is the time being taken in the overall process. It took a quarter and a fortnight to announce the new name and scope of the erstwhile Planning Commission.

It is true that Rome was not built in a day, but if the whole process is hastened through more proactive participation from the states, the new effort will also act as a tailwind in achieving that feat.
