The BJP, by all accounts, has made up for its lackluster start (‘A party of government, May 3) and some experts are even saying it will emerge as the country’s single-largest party. But being the single-largest party and being the party in power are two very different things. If the party is going to make hawkish statements on Hindutva, and support the likes of Varun Gandhi, none of the smaller parties will want to ally with it. This is the Congress party’s strength, that it can attract all other parties to it.
