I agree with Sadanand Menon’s analysis of the problems faced by tribals in his piece ‘The tagedy of being tribal in India’, June 26. Unfortunately, the Lalgarh issue has been misrepresented. The Lalgarh problem is actually a case of police atrocity. Enraged by its failure, the police fell upon the local people like a foreign army. The police behave as a colonial force as they are not trained in how to behave in an independent country.
