The Haryana government’s decision to not register the new union at Maruti’s Manesar plant amplifies that it is running with the hare and hunting with the hounds (“Haryana govt rejects Maruti second union,” August 14). Just a month ago, the state government had appealed to unions across Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida and Delhi to desist from a token day’s strike called in support of Maruti workers. It then compelled the management to take back the 11 dismissed workers, which ended the strike. Now, during this interim period, the management and the government are trying to break the unity of the union and the spirit of workers by delaying the democratic process of union formation that is in violation of the provisions of law and also the well-acknowledged principles of ILO and collective bargaining.
