This refers to the editorial "English Vinglish" (August 6). The government has let the camel's nose into its tent by giving in to the demands of protestors against the Civil Services Aptitude Test. Many more unreasonable demands will follow. The solidarity expressed by these protestors, who are from the Hindi belt, with other vernacular medium-educated aspirants is very opportunistic. This is being done to make this protest look pan-Indian. However, there are few students outside the Hindi belt protesting against this exam. We must understand that English is the most non-controversial link language in India and appreciate its utilitarian value.
