This refers to the Indicus Analytics analysis “Irrigation: untapped potential” (June 9). In the context of irrigation and water consumption, the country faces some major issues. First, rainwater harvesting remains an idea only in paper. Most attempts to implement rainwater harvesting have not yielded good results.
Second, rivers have suffered severe ecological damage owing to illegal sand mining. Deforestation is adding to the problem. And third, the country still lacks large dams. Innovative and scientific methods should be adopted to renovate and reconstruct the dams in the country.
