Paul David Hewson is not as great an investor as he is a singer. The main vocalist of U2, better known by his stage name Bono, according to Breakingviews (March 22), is a co-founder in Elevation Partners, which is seeing its biggest gamble ($460 million) — the turnaround of the once-iconic Palm — come unstuck. Palm, the story says, saw its stock prices plunge as the news came that it had sold a lot less phones than it had originally planned. Apart from being a bad investor, Hewson is not that savvy when it comes to technology either. Anyone who has seen the work Apple, Blackberry, Nokia and now, even Google, have put into making their smart phones should have known reviving Palm was always an uphill task. The good news, of course, is that Bono can recoup his losses through just a few more concerts.
