“Media’s decade” (Jan 4) is a nice roundup of events in the decade and the rise of the media as the last resort for people who are getting a raw deal from various arms of the government. Whether it is Jessica Lal or Ruchika Girotra, the final justice has been delivered only after the media intervened. The author has, however, left out several important caveats in an attempt to paint his own industry in a good light. He has not talked of how the media hounds people and how it protects the rich and powerful who advertise in it. What you need to see is how many Jessica Lal stories the media carries as a proportion of the total it has in a year, and how often does the media go after those who advertise in it. The answers could be quite telling.
