The Gujarat government needs to come clean on the value of the concessions that it has given the Tata Nano project. This must include the value of the land and various other tax and related concessions given. Once this is known, it must explain why such concessions were justified. It is only in our country that chambers of commerce and other ‘concerned’ citizens and the pink press make a big deal of waivers of loans to poor farmers, but say nothing when greater largesse is given for industrial projects.
