This refers to the report "Syndicate Bank chief held on allegations of bribery" (August 3). It is ironic that a top executive of a nationalised bank is caught in the web for allegedly receiving a whopping Rs 50 lakh as illegal gratification to grant credit extension to two private firms. Does it need to stressed that the top echelons should become role models for the lower hierarchy? The arrest of Syndicate Bank Chairman and Managing Director Sudhir Kumar Jain and his accomplices proves that corruption at higher levels percolates to the lower level, which results in the common man suffering the most. Is it not time these worthies realised that the law will follow wrongdoers like a shadow and catch up one day and the fact that nobody is exempted or insulated with a protective shield?
