It was heartening to read (“The big bite”, Oct 12) that companies like Nestle, PepsiCo and Coca Cola are still planning to invest Rs 4,275 crore in the Indian market over the next few years. Even if India is to grow by seven per cent for the next few years, that’s much better than other big economies and translates into a healthy increase in the number of middle-class households — typically, if the economy as a whole grows by X per year, the number of middle class and rich homes increases by 2-3 times X. It is this growth that the Nestles and Pepsis are investing to be able to capture. Only journalists who thrive on bad news are not able to capture this.
