This refers to the report "Prime Minister to chair NITI Aayog; CMs to be part of it" (January 2). Dispensing with the Planning Commission and replacing it with the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre has attempted one more move to do away with the vestiges of the Congress. With a change in name, the apprehensions of a public-owned think tank losing its relevance and vision for the country are unfounded, as the NITI Aayog will still be chaired by the prime minister himself, supported by its members. But the moot point is whether the Aayog in a new avatar will bring a noticeable change to Modi's governance.
