The news report “CIL allotment plan ready” (November 1) reveals some interesting facts. The issue was oversubscribed 15.28 times. The Left unions that spearheaded the boycott asked the employees not to subscribe, with the result that only 10 per cent of the shares reserved for the employees were subscribed. In this way, the unions deprived the employees of a rightful gain they would have made if they had ignored the union directive and subscribed to the issue. The unions, which have done a great disservice to its members by misguiding them, must realise that such boycotts are not going to impact the issue subscription. It is time the workers voted out unions that are mired in outmoded ideas that are detrimental to workers’ interests.
