Close on the heels of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram hosting a lunch for nearly a hundred journalists at his home in New Delhi, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee hosted another at his home. They are hardly exceptions — Delhi’s winter weather seems to have become open season for Union ministers to host lunches for journalists on their sprawling Lutyens lawns. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, Petroleum Minister Jaipal Reddy and Commerce Minister Anand Sharma are well-known hosts in Delhi’s media world. Even BJP leader Arun Jaitley hosted a big lunch party last month. However, the Mukherjee lunch coming so closely after the Chidambaram lunch is further fuelling political gossip in New Delhi about the intense rivalry between Raisina Hill’s North Block neighbours!
