Doordarshan (DD) is in awe of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's understanding of the visual medium. DD camerapersons have over the years honed their skills in producing visuals that show the PM in the least negative light, but this has also meant cutting out creativity or innovative camerawork. One such rule is to never capture the PM's profile from close quarters but always focus on the PM from the front. But Modi, according to sources, has been inspiring DD camerapersons to be more adventurous. During his Nepal visit, Modi asked the accompanying DD cameraperson to not just focus on him but also take shots of the people he was meeting and shaking hands with in the crowd. "Why don't you take an 'MCU'," Modi apparently told a nonplussed cameraperson, even elaborating that MCU meant a "mid close up". Modi, an amateur photographer, also has a good understanding of lighting and does come with suggestions to agency and DD camerapersons about best possible angles when they go to shoot events at 7, Race Course Road.
