West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's love for the arts is well known; she is an artist herself. Her aesthetic sensibilities were on show earlier this week, when Trinamool Congress MPs took part in an impromptu jamming session at the party's office on Parliament premises. Balurghat MP Arpita Ghosh, a theatre personality, began the session with "Hain apna dil toh awara, na jaane kis pe aayega…" Originally sung by Hemant Kumar, this S D Burman composition is a classic from the 1958 Dev Anand-Waheeda Rehman film Solva Saal.

Dola Sen and actor Satabdi Roy also performed. The session was wrapped up by Sreerampur MP Kalyan Banerjee singing, "O Ganga tumi boichho keno…", another classic number sung by Bhupen Hazarika. Though Mamata Banerjee did not join in, she encouraged her party colleagues by clapping enthusiastically.
