R Gopalan, who is the new secretary in the department of financial services of the finance ministry, was forced to delay his takeover by a day since his room wasn’t ready. He finally took over on Tuesday after GC Chaturvedi, the additional secretary, shifted to a new room — Chaturvedi has been officiating as the head of the department since Arun Ramanathan retired in 2008. Chaturvedi, for now, will sit in the room of economic advisor Vinita Kumar, who is on leave for a month. Another room is being renovated for him and, as luck would have it, will be ready in a month.
