India’s High Commission in London hosted a dinner in honour of President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on the first day of her four-day state visit to the UK. The National Anthem was played before Patil left the gathering and called it a day. A few among the invitees (mostly Indians and people of Indian origin) gave a standing ovation at the end of the National Anthem. Did they confuse the Jaya He with AR Rahman’s Jai Ho and clap for a good score? Perhaps it’s time for National Anthem etiquette classes.
