Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is learning a trick or two from arch rival Lalu Prasad. The railway minister is known for his homespun wit and his ability to spout poetry or film songs at the drop of a hat. So, when Kumar was deep inside Bihar, as part of his month-long tour to hear about the problems of the aam aadmi first-hand, someone referred to the railway minister’s trip to Japan.

Feigning ignorance about why Prasad had gone to Japan, Kumar reminisced about his college days when he’d seen the movie Love in Tokyo — he then began singing its popular song Le gayi dil, gudiya Japaan ki. As the audience broke into peals of laughter, Kumar said the film had another song. Sayonara, sayonara, he said, is the song Prasad will be singing once the people of the state sent him packing in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
