Politburo member Sitaram Yechury was rushing out of his office in the Capital’s Gol Market area when journalists, starved throughout the day for “TV bytes”, caught him for some official comments on the politburo meeting. Yechury was initially reluctant and said, “I don’t have time. It’s already 2:10 pm and I have to catch a 3 pm flight.” Some journalists quickly pointed out that he was the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Tourism and Culture (this includes the civil aviation ministry) and he could afford to spend some extra time for TV cameras. Yechury, known as a rule-bound parliamentarian, quipped, “That’s precisely the reason why I should not be late. Otherwise, you people will show that the chairman of the standing committee is delaying flights at the airport.”
