Bank of India has put out a tender for the sale of property in Delhi mortgaged to it by a Bangalore-based company called Tristar Hotels. This in itself is not unusual; given the slowdown, many borrowers are struggling to repay bank loans, and Tristar seems to be deep in debt. According to the tender, this private company owes BoI roughly Rs 18 crore, and six other banks Rs 73 crore. The interesting part is that the list of guarantors to the borrowers includes Ranjan Bhattacharya, husband of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's adopted daughter, and a powerful non-official member of the PM's establishment at the time.
