In the rallies that the ruling Trinamool Congress and Left parties organised in West Bengal on the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition what was most conspicuous was the near silence on the Bharatiya Janata Party. At a meeting on Mayo Road, ruling party leaders delved into the Left's "misdeeds" but avoided mention of national issues such as intolerance and the return of awards that have been used by the Opposition to attack the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. On their part, Left leaders attacked the Mamata Banerjee-led government in the state for the growing "intolerance" and "lawlessness". Is the BJP no longer a force to reckon with in the state?
