It doesn’t always pay to rope in professors or intellectuals for political causes. Recently, the NDA brass held a press conference at its top leader Lal Krishna Advani’s house over a task force report on black money. The party had roped in veteran IIM professor R Vaidyanathan to prepare the report, so he was asked by the other leaders to explain it to the press. The teacher went on and on over various technicalities of black money and certainly bored the audience which had gathered primarily to hear sharp political attacks. Finally, the media resorted to a big round of applause to stop Vaidyanathan. Realising he took a long time, Vaidyanathan quipped, “I am used to taking one-and-a-half-hour-long classes, so I don’t stop talking before that.”
