While launching the Green Highways (Plantation, Transplantation, Beautification and Maintenance) Policy 2015, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, warned it was not an initiative for people who talked smart but didn't work hard. "Chamkesh Bahadurs should refrain from participating in the scheme, as the government plans to monitor the project through the Isro (Indian Space Research Organisation) and the Airports Authority of India's technical aid system." Referring to projects launched only to earn political mileage, he said, "I will not treat this project in a manner other politicians treat their projects - they plant saplings, get clicked and then run away without caring for them."
