One can always bet on environment minister Jairam Ramesh to quip witty one-liners, even in the middle of serious discussions. At the press conference on the Jaitapur nuclear plant in Delhi, there was the usual rush among journalists when the press release was being distributed. This prompted Ramesh to shout, “Don’t do this. This is not a samosa, just a statement.” After a few minutes, Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan tried to explain how it was impossible to make some people change their views and referred to CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat, saying, “How can I make Prakash Karat understand the merits of the Indo-US nuclear deal?” Ramesh, silent for a while, quipped, “Don’t try that. It’s dangerous.”
